Sakshi Yoga for the Soul: Navigating the Self from ‘I Am That’ to ‘I-less-ness
We often hear about the trinity of body, mind, and soul, yet the soul’s true nature remains an enigma for many. Our spiritual essence often eludes us when acquainted with our physical and mental selves. But yoga offers a comprehensive approach to understanding these three aspects of our being, providing physical practices for the body, cognitive techniques for the mind, and “Sakshi Yoga” for the soul.
At its core, this journey of self-discovery takes us from the state of “I Am That” in the realm of the physical and mental self to the “I-less-ness” condition of the spirit.

The Enigmatic Soul: Unveiling the Mysteries of Body, Mind, and Spirit
The soul, in the unconscious mind, impartially witnesses the workings of body and mind. It’s the authentic self in pure consciousness, known as ‘THAT ART THOU,’ observing existence.
Indic philosophy and Quantum physics converge in understanding that our universe is a vast sea of formless, infinite potential energy. This energy is indivisible, eternal, and in constant flow. Furthermore, from this boundless energy, various transient kinetic energies, manifesting as mass and energy, emerge and eventually return to their source. In the human self, there’s gross body energy, subtle mind energy, and core soul energy.
Thus, emerging in the super-conscious section of the human mind, the soul is the essence of conscious perception and understanding. Also, it operates spontaneously and is that life force conjoined with the mind as its projection.
In contrast, the conscious and subconscious sections of the mind govern perception and understanding in duality, relying on memory and intellect, giving us the gift of choosing this or that for our likes and dislikes. Hence, the conscious mind is alert, aware, and focused on the present moment, while the subconscious mind operates in auto-mode, drawing from past knowledge going into the future.

The Soul’s Dance in Non-Duality: Witnessing Consciousness Beyond Dual Realities
To understand the spirit, it’s essential to comprehend the concepts of non-duality and duality. The cognitive mind operates in duality, dealing with opposites and making choices based on relative factors. Non-duality, conversely, signifies the ultimate metaphysical reality from which dualities arise.
The soul represents the core of non-dual awareness in the mind. Thus, its primary function is to impartially witness the thoughts and activities of the conscious and subconscious mind. Through constant observation and mindfulness, one can awaken the soul and transcend from the emotional play of the dualities in thought and action.
While the body and brain quantify our personality, the soul adds a qualitative dimension to our individuality. It is the source of fresh creative energy, leading to intuition, instinct, and intelligence. On the other hand, the intellect relies on past knowledge and external sources for decision-making.
The soul’s ability lies in observing without judgment in spontaneous pro-action. Consciousness, the aim of the subjective soul, eventually descends into duality as it interacts with cognition. In the subconscious realm, uncontrolled thoughts lead to entropy, a decline in quality, well explained by the Second Law of Thermodynamics.

In conclusion, the journey of self-discovery encompasses the body, mind, and soul. Because, in the grand scheme of existence, everything, from the vast cosmos to the microscopic particles, is a construct of the mind shaped by perception in illusion. Balancing materialism with spirituality is crucial to saving our planet Earth. As we seek to understand the universe and our place within it, nurturing our spiritual selves becomes vital for the well-being of individuals and our world.
