SPIRITUALISM & SPIRITUALITY

The philosophy of Spiritualism affirms the existence of a metaphysical ultimate reality that is not two, accepting the notion of a supreme reality or spirit in the form of non-dual awareness—a universal force of divine spiritual energy that provides conscious living. However, Spiritualism also covers a broad range of meanings, which varies in different cultures and communities with supernatural, mystical, and religious beliefs. Quantum Mechanics in physics today has come closer to this declaration proposed by the Vedic philosophy of Brahman from “Advaita Vedanta” in Hinduism to accepting all that exists is energy, which is neither created nor destroyed but only transformed from one appearance to another.

On the other hand, Spirituality is a process of reformation to transcend from lower to higher consciousness through various methods and techniques involving yoga, mindful meditation, self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-realization. It leads one towards the awakening of the soul, which guides and checks the brain and its body. Spirituality signifies a verb in action, like in cases of humanity, divinity, sexuality, etc. It is more of an objective effort to act upon subjective Spiritualism. It is the spirit in motion – spiritually, mentally, and physically.

The core purpose of Spirituality is to tranquilize the mind, allowing it to transcend space and time and live in the present, existentially from one moment to the other, witnessing one’s body and mind through the spirit of awareness. On the other hand, Spiritualism is that study that explores the essence of ‘who you are’ as the spirit and how to experience through spirituality ‘what you are’ in body and brain, academically differentiating between the non-dual spirit and the dualistic soul.

Spirituality is an experiential journey focused on embracing and encountering the spirit. However, Spiritualism involves the scholarly apprehension of the spirit that exists beyond the boundaries of cognition and the physical self. The inner journey is dedicated to rousing the soul, within which the spirit resides, to assume command of the mind, which randomly and recklessly thinks repetitively. Further, neo-spiritualism is a reconciliation between the absolute ultimate non-dual Brahman as nirguna, within which the temporal dualistic saguna appears and disappears.

Spirituality is distinct from mythology and beliefs, focusing on practicing prescribed methods to experience the soul and guide the random emotional thoughts in one’s mind. It’s an individual implementation for understanding the self beyond the cognitive mind without involving tenets, beliefs, or faiths.

Spirituality emphasizes selfless service without identifications and attachments after attaining contentment, clarity, and clairvoyance towards stillness, solitude, and serenity in mind with grace and respect for all as one. It encourages sensitivity toward everything with the conscious use of the mind to trigger the potential cosmic spirit residing within. According to the non-dual ideology of Spiritualism, there is no permanence in duality; the divine and the devil derive from the same absolute energy, separated only to transmute from one state of mind to another.

In conclusion, Spirituality is an experiential journey where the devotion flows toward the inner self’s purity. It addresses the urgent need to tame the unruly mind and attain balance in a world heavily tilted towards materialism. Spirituality fosters awareness and gradually leads to the experience of the non-dual spirit, bringing harmony and understanding.
